Tania SavoitGreetings to the SWASFAA Membership!

Well, summer time is well underway with the hot and humidified weather that we are all accustomed to during this time of year. I hope that your summer semesters are going well and I know that everyone is busy getting their fall students situated. Hang in there and keep up the good work!

I have had a busy spring visiting three state conferences in New Mexico, Arkansas and Oklahoma. It was an honor to visit their conferences and I truly appreciate their hospitality. I learned a lot from each of them and receive feedback from many colleagues during these state visits. Many new colleagues were met and some have continued their communication with me since the conferences. The networking and assisting each other is what it is all about and that is what keeps all of our associations viable and of utmost importance.

In a seven-week time frame, I went from Taos, NM (NMASFAA) to Conway, AR (AASFAA) to Midwest City, OK (OASFAA) to Arlington, TX (Board Meeting) to Anchorage, AK (WASFAA Inter-regional visit) to Jackson Hole, WY (NASFAA Board Meeting) then a final stop in Albuquerque, NM (Conference Committee Meeting). All of the meetings were extremely beneficial, informative, educational, creative and fun. Just wanted to ensure you, it was not all fun and games—I did have to work at each of these meetings, whether giving presentations, updates and/or reports. I do appreciate my university co-workers that assisted in my absence from work, and most of all, enjoyed returning home when time permitted.

As you know, we are honored that the NASFAA Conference will be held in our region this year. It will be July 12-15, 2009 in San Antonio, Texas. I am hopeful that many of you will be able to attend. I know that Cheryl Lyons from University of Central Arkansas, Conference Chair, and her committee, along with the Local Arrangements Chairs, Jill Brye from St. Mary's University, and Joyce A. Fox from University of Texas at San Antonio, have been hard at work and will be ready to greet our colleagues from around the nation. Thank you Cheryl, Jill, Joyce and your committee members for representing the SWASFAA region well!

The Nominations and Elections Committee is now soliciting nominees for the 2010 year and those positions are: President-Elect, Secretary, Oklahoma Delegate-at-Large and Texas Delegate-at-Large. “To serve your Association as an elected officer is an extremely rewarding and humbling experience. Not only are you able to share your leadership skills and training experiences, you have a direct impact on the direction and fiscal health of the Association. SWASFAA is worthy of your talents—please consider giving of your time and energy to this great organization,” as stated by David Page as he seeks nominations for those offices. I could not have said it better—each of you has a special talent that needs to be shared with SWASFAA as we continue to grow and enhance our association.

Congratulations to two of our members that will be completing their three-year commitment on the NASFAA Board in July, David Page (Regional Representative) and Alvina Thomas (Representative-at-Large). Thank you David and Alvina for doing a great job while serving on the NASFAA Board!

Please make plans to attend the Annual Conference, Boot Camp and Mid-Level Training throughout the week of December 7-11, 2009 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The committees have been busy planning very informative, educational and training sessions for all three events.
