By Rick Renshaw, SWASFAA President

SWASFAA Members,

It is hard to believe that we are already three-fourths of the way through this year. Summer was just a blur. By the time you are reading this, the fall registration will be a recent memory. Right now I'll bet you are probably scrambling to validate disbursements and answering the phone every few seconds to hear the question, "When am I going to get my money?"

This article of the SCAN is full of valuable information that I know you will want to hear about. Fall conference is just a few short weeks away. Hotel rooms at the conference hotel were booked up before the end of July. At the time of this writing, the conference committee was working out negotiations with an overflow hotel nearby. David Page and his crew have put together an excellent program for you. I am sure by now you are all dreaming AC Grant and SMART Grant in your sleep. It seems like something else comes up every week that brings more questions. There will be presenters from ED there to help you sort through the latest information on the new programs.

Vicki Hendrickson and the local arrangements committee are working on a fun evening event to honor and recognize award recipients and retirees by "Putting on the Ritz". This is something you will not want to miss.

Do you have someone new in your office that needs a comprehensive overview of the financial aid process? Boot Camp will be going on Monday through Wednesday prior to the Fall Conference. Janette Carson and her team of experienced financial aid gurus will be sharing from their vast repertoire of financial aid knowledge in a jam-packed session of facts and fun. Check inside this SCAN for more information.

Voting for your 2007 SWASFAA leadership will begin later this month. Please read the information on candidates and be ready to vote when the ballots are opened. The Nominations and Elections Committee has put together an excellent slate of candidates. SWASFAA will be in good hands next year with this caliber of leadership.

This is my last article before I turn the gavel over to Jacqueline Lachapelle at the end of the Fall Conference. I want to say a big "THANK YOU" to all of this year's board members, committee chairs, committee members, and volunteers. You have done well. It has been a great honor to have served as your president this year. Thanks to each and every member of our great association for your support and encouragement. I will always cherish the memory of the year. SWASFAA truly is a great family of caring professionals.

I'm looking forward to seeing you at the conference in Tulsa in November.

Rick Renshaw
