By Rick Renshaw, SWASFAA President
2006 is flying by. It is hard to believe that this year is almost
half over. The last few months have been a whirlwind of activity
with conferences, committee meetings, and board meetings. My colleagues
at the Dallas County CCD are beginning to wonder if I am ever
in the office! I truly want to thank each and every one of them
for the support they have shown. Without their help and encouragement,
I wouldn't be able to do this.
This last quarter started off with the Annual Conference committee
meeting at the 2006 conference site in Tulsa, Oklahoma. David
Page and his team are busy putting together a fantastic conference
for us with an excellent selection of sessions on the agenda.
The committee has already posted information on the web site and
will be adding more as it becomes available. If you haven't already
reserved your room at the hotel, please do so now. We'll be "Putting
on the Ritz, 2006" at the Renaissance Hotel in Tulsa, November
8, 9 and 10. Be there or be square.
In March, I was able to spend a few days with our colleagues
in New Mexico at their annual conference at the Inn of the Mountain
Gods in Ruidoso, New Mexico. The weather was as gorgeous as the
facilities. Everyone made me fell right at home. In April, I attended
the OASFAA spring conference in Midwest City, Oklahoma. The attendance
was great and the hospitality was top shelf. In May, I visited
our colleagues from AASFAA at their spring conference in North
Little Rock, Arkansas. Visiting Arkansas is like going home, since
I was reared in that state. Everyone there was so friendly and
gracious. At each conference, I was able to recognize those who
have volunteered their time and efforts to our association and
to express appreciation for their hard work on our behalf throughout
The SWASFAA Board met in the Dallas area April 24-25 for the
second meeting of the year. At that meeting, the Board approved
the implementation of an on-line credit card payment system as
an added benefit to our membership. Many members have indicated
that their schools and companies are moving away from paper checks
and requiring electronic payments. The Board recognized the need
for the association to provide this payment option to its members
and acted to make this happen this year.
The Nominations and Elections committee is currently receiving
nominations for a variety of positions open on the Board for 2007.
If you would consider running or know someone who you believe
would provide great leadership to the association, please submit
a nomination form on the web site today. Nominations deadline
is July 1!
I hope your 2006-07 awarding cycle is going well. Looking forward
to seeing you at the conference in Tulsa in November.
