SWASFAA Board Meeting
September 28, 2009
With over half of our 15 month term behind us, the LASFAA Board has stayed the course and
worked diligently to make sure all goals and objectives are being met. I am so proud of our
officers and committee chairs and the work that they've done this year.
Conferences and Workshops:
- Upper-management workshop: Not held this year.
- 2009 Fall Conference:
- October 21 - 23, 2009 at the Astor Crowne Plaza, New Orleans, LA
- Theme: "Pay it Forward: Service to Students"
- Our state has encouraged each institution to "Pay it Forward" at their campuses
throughout the year.
- 2009 Fall Mini-Boot Camp:
- October 21, 2009 at the Astor Crowne Plaza, New Orleans, LA
- Theme: "Providing the Help People Need...Training to the Rescue!"
- Financial Aid Support Staff Training (F.A.S.T.): TBA
- Essential Leaders in Training Emerging (ELITE) institute is for new board members and is
tentatively scheduled to occur after the Fall Conference but before the new board will take
over in January 2010.
- 2010 College Goal Sunday: February 21, 2010
- 2010 Spring Conference:
- Tentative Dates: March 10-11, 2010 at Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville
Meetings:
- Our second official board meeting is scheduled for October 20, 2009 in New Orleans, LA.
- Fall Business Meeting is scheduled to be held during our Fall Conference in October, 2009.
- Patrick Gorman, First Vice President, will hold a Planning Meeting on October 21, 2009 for new
2010 Board Members.
Other Updates:
- Our 2010 Officer s have been elected and are as follows:
- First Vice President: Denise Spellman, University of New Orleans
- Second Vice President: Dawn Eubanks, Northwestern State University
- 2010-2011 LAICU Delegate: Theodis Wright, Our Lady of Holy Cross College
- 2010-2011 LSU Delegate: Paul Monteleone, Louisiana State University, Alexandria
- 2010-2011 ULS Delegate: Misty Adams, Northwestern State University
- 2010-2011 Graduate/Professional Delegate: Deanna Cooper, LSU Health Sciences New Orleans
- We also sent a letter to congress regarding SAFRA and our states concerns with the changes
this proposal makes to FFELP and Perkins.
- Awarded our Mildred D Higgins LASFAA High School Scholarship to 4 students attending
Louisiana universities.
- Working towards improving the archiving of our historical data (minutes and reports).
